No Replacement for the Real Thing

If you have read this blog before, then you know I have done plenty of tutorials. With this practice, comes plenty of repetition. And while in the middle of the tutorial, I understand what I am doing. But once it is completed, I am left with an overall understanding (which is not a bad thing in itself), but the practical application does not stick as well.

I have started a project that may have been a side job (I have yet to hear back from the person that contacted me), and built it from scratch. This is the same way I created AlertYoSelf. It should have sunk in by now that this is the best way I learn, with real problems I have to solve. (See what I did there? Figuring out the hard way about the best way I learn…)

As I am not a seasoned developer, this project taught me that progress comes at all times. I wrote some code two days ago and going back to add more functionality, I can’t believe that my fingers produced that crap!!! It feels good to review something I have created and know that I can improve on it.
